In short: there is very little you need to do. Be somewhere quiet with a stable internet connection, have headphones if you can, and allow more time than you think you need. You do not need to prepare questions, study anything, or bring documents. The one thing worth doing in advance is thinking about why you booked the reading.

The practical side

Your reading takes place live on Zoom, with a reader in Tamil Nadu, a moderator, and a translator into your language where one is needed. Everything below follows from that.

Somewhere quiet, where you will not be interrupted

This matters more than people expect. You will be listening to a reading of your own life, often through a translator, for a good while. A room where someone might walk in, or where you are half-watching the door, makes that harder than it needs to be.

A stable internet connection

A wired connection or a strong wifi signal is better than mobile data. If your connection drops during the session it can be picked up again, but it interrupts the reader mid-passage, and the reading flows better without it.

Headphones

Not required, but they help. Part of the session is in Tamil before it is translated, and headphones make it much easier to follow the rhythm of what is being read.

More time than you expect

Including the matching process, a General Palm Leaf Reading typically takes two to four hours in total. Do not schedule something immediately afterwards. People are often quieter after a reading than they anticipated, and having to rush into a meeting is a poor way to end it.

Something to write with

Optional. Some people take notes; others prefer to simply listen and add a written transcription afterwards, so they are not dividing their attention during the session itself.

What you do not need to do

Before the session: the thumbprint

The one thing that does happen in advance is your thumbprint. It is what the library uses to narrow down which bundle of leaves might contain yours, and it has to be submitted before the search can begin. That step is explained separately in how to give your thumbprint.

Once your thumbprint is with the library, there is nothing further for you to do until the session.

The part worth thinking about

If you want to prepare in any real sense, this is the only preparation that matters: know why you booked.

Most people come with something specific behind the decision — a situation they are in, a choice they are weighing, a question they have carried for a long time. You will not need to state it, and the reading does not depend on it. But knowing it yourself changes how you listen, and it makes the difference between hearing information and recognising something.

Within the Nadi tradition, a reading describes what is recorded in the leaf, including difficulties and periods that are not easy. It is not a forecast of good news, and it is not a promise about how anything will turn out. Clients often describe the value as understanding their situation differently rather than being told what is going to happen. Going in expecting that, rather than expecting reassurance, tends to make for a better session.

Common questions

What if my leaf is not found during the session?

The matching process happens at the start, and not every search succeeds immediately. Your moderator will explain what happens next. This is covered in the FAQ and in our terms.

Can someone else be in the room with me?

Yes. Some people prefer to have a partner or family member present, particularly when the reading touches on family matters. It is your session.

What if I do not understand something during the reading?

Ask. The moderator is there for exactly that, and stopping to clarify is normal. Nothing is lost by interrupting.

Can I record the session?

A recording and a written transcription can be arranged so that you can return to the reading later. Ask your moderator before the session rather than during it.

What if I am nervous?

Common, and worth saying out loud at the start. The moderator will take it into account. There is nothing you have to perform, and nothing you can get wrong.
